Sarah Ghelam is a PhD student at the University of Tours and Paris 8. Her thesis focuses on the production, representation and reception of non-white characters in picture books. She also investigates LGBTQI+ representations. She is involved in several organizations advocating for diversity in children’s literature and she is the editor of a book collection for “On ne compte pas pour du beurre.”
Seeing yourself represented in stories, be they fairytales or press articles, is important for our well-being as lesbians. In this session we discuss constructing narratives of refugee lesbian maternity, the political detention case of Karla and Magda, and also LGBTQI+ representation in French children’s literature.
