33, a Brazilian lesbian activist born and raised in the Maré favela in the city of Rio de Janeiro. She is a human rights activist, feminist, militant LGBTI, city planner at PUC-Rio, where she also teaches about violence and the right to the city. Since the murder of her partner Marielle Franco on March 14 2018, in Brazil, Monica Benicio has done a tremendous work raising attention on this issue of violence against activists in the media. A lot of international publications have covered the followings of the murder of Marielle Franco and interviewed Monica Benico on LGBT issues in Brazil.
